Behavioral Health Clinician

Job Description

This position provides evidence-based, culturally relevant outpatient behavioral health treatment for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, and/or mental disorders. Clinical services include individual, group, family, and marital therapy, as well as bio-psychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations, care coordination, and crisis intervention. The clinician is an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, supporting individuals and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement culturally relevant screening, assessment, diagnosing, treatment planning, and evidence-based therapy to meet client needs.
  • Utilize Trauma Informed Care in all patient, employee, and community interactions.
  • Integrate mental health and substance use disorder interventions based on individualized assessments.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans and conduct treatment reviews as needed.
  • Provide care coordination, advocacy, motivational interviewing, bio-psychosocial education, and skill development.
  • Maximize access to care and promote effective coping strategies, self-care, and symptom management.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clinical and paraprofessional team members to achieve treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention services during normal clinic hours and participate in shared rotating after-hours crisis services.
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all services in the electronic health record.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable policies.
  • Coordinate care within the health system and local community agencies for appropriate referrals.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, training, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Consistently meet productivity expectations to support patient access to timely care.
  • Respond promptly to coding and audit requests in a professional manner.
  • Complete all required provider enrollment documentation and other assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred licensure as Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Must maintain licensure once obtained for the duration of employment.
  • Valid State Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Alaska State Chemical Dependency Counselor I or MAC certificate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of Clinical Competency Assessment within 3 months and every 3 years thereafter.

Experience

  • Experience and expertise in behavioral health assessment and diagnosis.
  • Ability to assess, create treatment plans, and refer patients of all ages.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health assessment and diagnostic criteria.
  • Familiarity with treatment plan development and patient/family-centered goals.
  • Understanding of evidence-based methods for individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Awareness of federal and state mandatory reporting requirements and ethical practices.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assess patients for risk of suicide and develop effective safety plans.
  • Advocate for patients and coordinate necessary services during crises.
  • Skilled in analyzing and diagnosing situations, adopting effective courses of action.
  • Document clear and concise reports based on patient observations and assessments.
  • Adapt treatment plans to accommodate changes in patient needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments in behavioral health assessment and counseling.
