Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The Telemetry Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a telemetry unit, focusing on the management and treatment of cardiac patients and general overflow cases. This role requires strong assessment skills and the ability to interpret EKG strips accurately.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for individuals in the telemetry unit.
• Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to the healthcare team.
• Administer medications as prescribed and observe their effects.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
• Participate in patient education and discharge planning.
• Perform necessary documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist with room assignments and patient flow within the telemetry unit.

Qualifications

• Valid nursing license and a minimum of 2 years of experience in telemetry nursing.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips.
• Flexibility to float to MedSurg and Tele units as required.

Shift Details

• 12-hour night shifts.
• Every other weekend commitment required.
• Must be available to work two of the three major holidays.

Work Environment

• Telemetry Unit with 14 South and 8 East beds.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4.
• Flexible self-scheduling with the manager balancing final schedules.
• Unit staffed with nurse aides as census requires; typically 1-2 aides available.
• Charge nurse role generally does not take patients but provides break relief.

Additional Information

• Floor-specific orientation provided with a preceptor for 1-2 days.
• Pharmacy and respiratory team available 24/7.
• Must have a strong team-oriented mindset and adaptability to various situations.

COVID Requirements

• Medical declination must be accompanied by a physician’s note.
• Religious declination does not require supporting documentation.
