Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

The Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) will be scheduled in accordance with facility policy and is expected to work every other weekend and holidays in rotation with the nursing staff.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 29
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Unit Staffing: RNs
  • Type of Equipment: i-mobile phones for each care team member, Mobile computer workstation on wheels, mobilab for lab drawers, alaris IV pumps
  • Documentation System: Meditech
  • Scheduling Requirements: 3 – 12 hour shifts per week, to include every other weekend
  • Floating Policy: Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to the emergency department or telemetry monitoring room when necessary.
  • Patient Experience Requirements: Bedside shift report, AIDET communication, and RN/MD rounding.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least one previous successful travel nursing assignment.
  • Minimum of 30 months RN or LPN nursing experience.

Required Skills

  • Ability to care for up to 6 telemetry patients, including those who have undergone cardiac procedures (e.g., PCI, PPM, ICD, Ablations).
  • Proficient in reading telemetry strips.
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to develop and implement plans of care each shift.
  • Collaboration with physicians and ancillary departments for coordinated patient care.
  • Conduct discharge planning and provide patient education.

Advanced Skills Required

  • Phlebotomy.
  • Administration of respiratory treatments including inhalers and nebulizers.
  • Foley catheter care and maintenance.
  • Management of cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, and Dobutamine.

Certification Requirements

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required.

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy uniform.
