Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Stepdown

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown unit. This is a critical care stepdown position designed to provide higher-level monitoring and care for patients transitioning from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role requires a strong background in handling stepdown patients and experience with telemetry and high-risk medications.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care for up to 3 patients at a time, ensuring close monitoring and effective communication.
• Titrate drips including Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, and Levophed, as required.
• Manage arterial and central venous pressure (CVP) lines effectively.
• Care for patients with tracheostomies and those who are stable on ventilators.
• Collaborate with a close-knit team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown Care
• Number of Beds: 14 beds / 7 rooms
• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:3
• Patient Types: Stepdown patients from ICU, TBI/trauma patients, major surgical patients, CEA, and sepsis cases.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a PCU or ICU stepdown unit.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Experience with high-risk medications and telemetry training is essential.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient care and teamwork.

Schedule and Staffing

• 12-hour shifts; primarily night shifts with some weekends (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule).
• First to float within departments, including to Telemetry or MedSurg as needed.
• Self-scheduling is encouraged, with schedules made out approximately 2-3 weeks in advance and an attempt to schedule out 9 weeks in advance.
