PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a stepdown unit and be committed to providing high-quality patient care.

Unit Information

The position is within a 24-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) that provides care for patients with various conditions including:

• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Pneumonia (PNA)
• Sepsis
• Stroke/TIA
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for assigned patients in accordance with the care plan.
• Monitor and assess patient health status, including vital signs and lab results.
• Administer medications and titrate drips as required, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nicardipine, and Dobutamine.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize virtual nursing resources to enhance patient monitoring and support.
• Read cardiac strips and respond to alerts from monitor technicians.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a progressive care or stepdown unit.
• Current ACLS, BLS Certification, and NIHSS certification are required.
• Demonstrated competence in stroke patient care and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Shift and Scheduling

• 12-hour night shifts with guaranteed 36 hours per week.
• Self-scheduling with an expectation of one extra shift every 6 weeks.
• Every 3rd weekend requirement, with additional weekends available if desired.
• Holidays divided by a rotating weekend schedule.

Additional Information

• Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas.
• Unit orientation includes three shifts of training on your assigned schedule.
• Scrub color/dress code: Navy tops and bottoms.
