Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Stepdown

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown setting. The ideal candidate will have experience providing care to patients who are transitioning from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and require intermediate-level monitoring.

Position Details

• Unit Type: Stepdown (PCU)
• Patient Ratio: 1:3 Nurse to Patient
• Bed Capacity: 14 beds / 7 rooms
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to stepdown patients from the ICU.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop care plans accordingly.
• Monitor vital signs and manage complex medical conditions, including TBI/trauma, sepsis, and patients recovering from major surgeries.
• Administer and titrate high-risk medications such as pressors and sedation medications.
• Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Engage in effective communication with patients and families regarding care plans and expected outcomes.
• Participate in unit orientation and training programs.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an ICU stepdown or PCU setting.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
• Experience with arterial and CVP pressure lines, and managing patients on stable ventilation.
• Ability to titrate drips including Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, and levophed.
• Strong teamwork skills and a commitment to enhancing patient experience through effective communication and advocacy.

Scheduling and Requirements

• 12-hour shifts starting at 6:45 AM or 6:45 PM.
• Commitment to working every other weekend and holidays as assigned.
• Floating to telemetry or med-surg may be required.
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available.
