PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job & Shift Details

This position offers a night shift schedule in a Stepdown unit, requiring a commitment of 12-hour shifts.

Unit Overview

• Beds: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
• Nurse Ratios: 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Adults with cardiac medical/surgical needs, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, adult respiratory conditions, stroke, post-stent and post-pacer placement, renal failure

Responsibilities

The registered nurse will be required to:

• Provide care for patients in the progressive care unit
• Titrate drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin
• Be competent in handling arterial lines
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role
• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• No artificial nails: Per policy, artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas

The PCU team prioritizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, and effective communication regarding medications. A focus on learning, adaptability, and team collaboration is essential, as this unit serves a diverse patient population, primarily featuring Hispanic and Somalian communities.

Additional Information

• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract period
• Floating Requirement: May need to float to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU acuity patients
• Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
• Orientation: One day of unit-specific orientation with an open book exam
