Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Step-Down

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 40
• Patient Ratios: 1:4; stretch staffing at 1:5 ratio
• Type of Patients: Patients with heart failure, myocardial infarction, chest pain, arrhythmia, pulmonary hypertension, valvular disease, endocarditis, diabetic ketoacidosis, post-cardiac catheterization/stenting, post-pacemaker/ICD/ablation.
• Type of Equipment: Zoll monitors, Baxter pumps, lift equipment, bladder scanners.
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Shift Information

• Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 10 Staff Bedside Nurses, 4 Patient Care Technicians, 1 Unit Secretary
• Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 10 Staff Bedside Nurses, 3 Patient Care Technicians

Typical Procedures

• Bedside Cardioversion

Qualifications

Required Skills

• Experience in step-down or progressive care settings
• Telemetry experience
• Proficiency with titratable or cardiac IV medications such as nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin drips, heparin, and diuretics (e.g., bumetanide, furosemide)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with prostacyclins (Flolan, Veletri, Remodulin)
• Relief charge nurse experience

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Floating Areas

Candidates may be required to float to all Med-Surg units, step-down units, COVID unit, and ER holding.

Dress Code

All staff are required to wear scrubs in solid white or navy blue, or a combination of a white top and navy blue pants.

Weekend Requirements

Candidates are expected to work every other weekend.
