Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This position involves providing specialized care to critically ill pediatric patients in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

  • Unit Name: PICU
  • Number of Beds: 9
  • Patient Ratios: PICU 1 RN to 1-2 patients; Stepdown: 1 RN to 2-3 patients
  • Type of Equipment: Alaris pumps
  • Documentation System: Cerner
  • Unit Staffing Description: Healthcare Unit Coordinator works from 9 AM to 9 PM; Technicians are shared with PICU

Scheduling Requirements

  • Must work 3 weekends within a 6-week schedule
  • Floating policy includes potential rotation to Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of PICU experience required
  • Certifications Required: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Responsibilities

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse will be responsible for the following:

  • Performing assessments and monitoring patient vital signs and clinical status
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Conducting procedures including IV starts, catheterizations, lumbar punctures, and central line dressing changes
  • Managing hemodynamic monitoring, tracheostomy care, tube feeding and placement, intracranial pressure monitoring, and ventilator management
