Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 24
• Number of Staff: 40
• Staff Composition:
  • Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 5-6 RNs (dependent on census), 1 Unit Clerk
  • Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 5-6 RNs (dependent on census), 1 Unit Clerk
• Patient Ratios: 2:1, 1:1 for higher acuity, and 3:1 for lower acuity
• Type of Equipment Used: Vents, drips, chest tubes, central lines, syringe pumps, tracheostomies, gastrostomy tubes
• Electronic Medical Record System: Meditech

Qualifications

• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in a related role.
• Must Have Skills:
  • Experience with intubated patients and mechanical ventilation.
  • ICU level of care experience.
• Preferred Skills:
  • ECMO experience (direct patient care, not the pump).
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) experience.
• Typical Procedures:
  • Central line and chest tube placement.
  • Sedation, lumbar puncture, intubation.
• Best Personality Fit: Flexible, good communication skills with the medical team, friendly, and positive attitude.
• Required Certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Work Schedule

• Every other weekend requirement.

Dress Code

Scrub Color: Navy blue; no t-shirts allowed.

A PICU manual will be provided upon arrival, detailing process guidelines for the care provided in the unit.
