Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Unit Information

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides specialized care for critically ill children. The unit features:

• Number of Beds: 24
• Staff: 40
• Patient Ratios:
  • 2:1 for general patients
  • 1:1 for higher acuity cases
  • 3:1 for lower acuity, step-down patients
• Type of Equipment: Vents, drips, chest tubes, central lines, syringe pumps, tracheostomies, gastrostomy tubes
• EMR System: Meditech

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse in the PICU is responsible for the following:

• Providing direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients across various body systems, including respiratory, neuro, GI, GU, and more
• Administering ventilator support and managing sedation procedures
• Performing advanced procedures such as central line and chest tube placements, lumbar punctures, and intubations

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following:

• Valid PALS certification
• Experience with intubated patients and ventilator management
• ICU-level care experience with critically ill patients

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience with ECMO (patient care, not pump management)
• Experience with CRRT

The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility and excellent communication skills, possessing a friendly and positive attitude while collaborating with the medical team.

Dress Code

Staff is required to wear navy blue scrubs; t-shirts are not permitted.

Floating Requirements

Staff may be required to float to all children’s units and NICU as needed.

Schedule

Position requires working every other weekend.
