Unit Information

Unit Name: PCU

• Number of Beds: 630 (34 beds), 633 (25 beds)
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Staffing: 3 techs when full on unit 630, 2 techs when full on unit 633
• Type of Equipment: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech

Schedule Requirements

• 3 shifts of 12 hours per week
• Every other weekend requirement for contract
• Floating policy may require movement between PCU units or med-surg floors

Patient Experience Requirements

• Hourly rounding on days
• Every 2-hour rounding on nights
• Utilization of AIDET and management of communication boards

Required Qualifications

• Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Critical thinking skills
• EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac drip, insulin drip, and heparin drip
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis (preferred)
• Peripheral IV skills

Advanced Skills Needed

• Experience with bipaps and various oxygen delivery systems
• Experience in stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Dress Code

Required Uniform: Black Scrubs
