• Unit Name: D2
• Number of Beds: 40
• Patient Ratios:
  • 1:5 Step-Down
  • 1:6 MedSurg
  • 1:5 if combined – day and night
• Staffing Description: Goal is a free charge, typically 1-2 CNAs based on volume – day and night
• Equipment: Baxter IV pumps
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Floating Policy: Expected to float to other units within skill set
• Patient Experience Requirements: Patient safety and care come first. This unit focuses on ED decompression and enhanced throughput.

Responsibilities

The unit operates as a Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit, primarily focused on receiving admitted patients from the ED. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting Admission Assessments
• Performing Medication Reconciliation
• Initiating acute care orders

This structured process enhances patient experience and reduces overall length of stay, helping to care for patients with diverse diagnoses.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) level experience preferred
• Skills: A positive attitude with a focus on teamwork in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Charge Nurse Experience: Previous charge nurse experience or a willingness to take on this role is appreciated
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required

Dress Code

Scrub colors are navy blue and white, or a combination of the two. Appropriate jackets or sweaters in navy or white are permitted if needed.

Additional Information

• Travel nurses have the opportunity for extensions, with many returning for multiple assignments.
• Opportunities to float to other units are available, including positions in the CMU Telemetry Unit and as ED Transporters.
• Telemetry nurses oversee telemetry patients, ensuring safety and timely placement per orders.
• ED Transport Nurses assist in transferring higher acuity patients from the ED to specialized inpatient units.
