Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU

Unit Information

Location: Englewood, CO

Unit Overview:

  • Number of Beds: 30
  • Number of Staff: 65
  • Staff Composition: Registered Nurses (RNs) and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4, occasionally 1:5
  • Equipment Utilized: Telemetry, transport monitors, suction devices, feeding pumps, tracheostomy care, BIPAP and CPAP, heated high flow oxygen, chest tubes, foleys, pacer wires, IV pumps, SCD pumps
  • Electronic Medical Record: Meditech

Qualifications

  • Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year of current acute care PCU hospital experience
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS are mandatory
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Chest tube management and removal
    • Pacer wire removal
    • Competence in 12-lead EKG interpretation
    • Oxygen management up to BIPAP and heated high flow
    • Administration of drips: heparin, diltiazem, amiodarone, Lasix, dobutamine, milrinone, ketamine

Clinical Responsibilities

Typical procedures performed on unit include:

  • Post-cardiac catheterization care including right and left heart catheterizations, TAVRs, ablations, watchman procedures, and pacemaker implantations
  • Management of post-thoracic surgeries including VATs/RATs, resections, lobectomies, and chest tube management
  • Pre and post-operative care for open-heart surgical patients including CABGs, MVRs, AVRs, and Aortic Dissection repairs
  • Post-operative care for vascular surgery patients
