PACU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position involves working as a Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The role requires flexibility, as the nurse will be responsible for rotating shifts, working days, weekends, and being on-call as needed.

Unit Information

Details regarding the PACU unit are as follows:

• Number of Beds: 10 bays
• Staff: 13 Registered Nurses
• Day Shift: Varies based on scheduled procedures, typically 6-8 RNs
• Night Shift: 24-hour call coverage with standard call hours from 9:30 PM to 7:30 AM, Monday to Friday, and all-day coverage on weekends
• Patient Ratios: Adheres to CPAN guidelines
• Equipment: GE patient monitors, Stryker and Hillrom beds
• EMR: Expanse

Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a hospital setting required
• Licensure: Active state nursing license required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required

Preferred Skills

While not mandatory, the following skills are advantageous:

• PACU experience at Level II or higher
• ICU experience
• Emergency Room (ER) experience
• CPAN certification

Responsibilities

Nurses in the PACU will care for a diverse patient population, including pediatrics and adults, handling a range of surgical procedures. Typical cases include:

• Lumpectomies
• Tympanostomy (tubes)
• Tonsillectomies
• Open heart surgeries
• Trauma cases

Call and Weekend Requirements

The call schedule includes:

• Call frequency of once per week, Monday through Thursday
• One Friday every five weeks

The uniform will be provided by the facility, adhering to the hospital’s dress code policy.

Work Environment

Applicants should be prepared to respond to calls within a 30-minute timeframe, ensuring readiness to accept patients in the PACU.
