Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will be committed to ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes and enhancing the patient experience in a supportive healthcare environment.

General Information

• Location: San Antonio, TX
• Shift Details: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Floating Policy: Required to float as needed

Unit Highlights

• Number of Beds: 40
• Patient Ratios: 1:5/6
• Staffing: Includes unit secretaries and Patient Care Assistants (PCA)
• Documentation System: Meditech

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Active TX RN License (temporary licenses are not accepted)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical-Surgical RN
• Proficiency with Meditech charting
• IV peripheral start and care, central line care
• Foley insertion and care
• Care for tubes and drains (e.g., NG, JP, chest tubes, ostomy care)

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with tracheostomy care
• Wound vacs and large dressing changes
• 3-way bladder irrigation knowledge
• Ability to teach and communicate effectively with patients
• Experience with Patient Communication Boards

Dress Code

• Scrub Color: Navy scrub top and pants, navy or white scrub jacket
• Nail Policy: No acrylic nails, no longer than ¼ inch, clean, and no chipped polish
• Hair: Must be off shoulders and in natural color
• Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; those that cannot be covered will be addressed individually
• Piercings: Visible piercings, other than earrings, are prohibited
