Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Surgical team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment, particularly in a post-surgical capacity.

Unit Overview

This 28-bed unit specializes in caring for patients recovering from:

• Bariatric surgeries
• Urologic and nephrology surgeries/procedures
• Infectious processes such as cellulitis, abscesses, and wounds
• GI diseases (including SBO, diverticulitis)
• Other surgical interventions like cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and amputations

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts with 36 hours guaranteed per week
• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• Holiday rotation: you may request 1 holiday off per year

Contract Length

Preferred contract lengths are between 26 to 51 weeks, with occasional consideration given to shorter contracts based on case-by-case evaluation. Flexibility with start dates is necessary as orientation will occur bi-weekly.

Qualifications

• Must have a current AHA BLS certification at the time of submission
• Active Kansas or Multistate RN license with no issues
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
• Progressive care or step-down experience is a plus
• Education: ADN or BSN required
• Charting experience with Epic is preferred; testing options are available

Staffing Ratios

The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6.

Appearance Policy

Jewelry and body adornment are allowed. Visible tattoos are permitted as long as they are not offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate for a professional setting. Facial and ear piercings are acceptable, provided they do not interfere with job duties.

Vaccination Requirements

• Proof of immunity for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella through titer or vaccination completion
• TDaP vaccine and Influenza vaccine required during flu season; exemption requests are accepted
• Documentation of TB status is also required
