L&D Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

The position involves providing dedicated care in the Labor and Delivery unit. This role requires the candidate to work rotating shifts, including weekend and holiday coverage as needed. The successful applicant will be part of a professional healthcare team focused on delivering high-quality maternal and neonatal care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care during labor and delivery for a variety of patient situations.
  • Monitor and assess maternal and fetal health throughout the labor process.
  • Titrate IV drips and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Utilize advanced neonatal respiratory equipment, including CPAP and BiPAP.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in patient education and support for new families.
  • Assist in the circulation of C-sections, focusing on neonatal care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing.
  • Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • Must demonstrate ability to follow AWHONN guidelines regarding patient ratios.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and independent decision-making skills are essential.
  • Ability to pass necessary fit tests if facial hair is present, as outlined in facility policies.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: L&D (Labor and Delivery)
  • Number of L&D Beds: 4 Labor and Delivery beds, 7 Postpartum beds
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 for Labor, 1:2-3 for Postpartum
  • Common Diagnoses: Patients over 35 weeks in labor, including mom/baby couplets.

Additional Information

  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts with rotating day and night schedules.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend.
  • Floating to other units may occur for supportive roles, primarily in patient observation.
  • Scrubs will be provided by the facility.
  • The position includes a 3-shift orientation specific to the unit.
  • This is a rural setting with limited services; thus, adaptability is crucial.
