Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

Location: Salem, VA

Unit Type: Emergency Department

• Number of Beds: 27
• Number of Staff: 50 RNs / 25 Medics
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per RN

Shift Details

• Day Shift: 1 Charge RN, 5 RNs, 2-3 Medics (increases to 9-10 RNs at 11 AM and to 6-7 RNs at 3 PM)
• Night Shift: 1 Charge RN, 5 RNs, 2-3 Medics

General Information

• Type of Equipment: EMR – Meditech
• Typical Procedures:
  • Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
  • Sepsis Interventions
  • Stroke Protocol with tPA Administration
  • Central Line Placement
  • Care of Psych Patients
  • Transfers to Other Facilities (EMTALA)

Qualifications

• Required Skills:
  • Must have completed 2-3 travel assignments
  • Must have 2-3 years of Emergency Room experience
• Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in high acuity ERs
  • Fast-paced ER experience with high volume
  • Experience with patient ratios of 5:1

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC (Preferred)
• ENPC (Preferred)
• NRP (Preferred)
• NIH Stroke Scale Training (Preferred)

Additional Information

• No floating required.
• Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs.
• Weekends: Four weekend shifts in a four-week scheduling period (Friday or Saturday nights; Saturday or Sunday days).
