Endoscopy Technician
General Information
This position involves working in a facility with 4 endoscopy rooms, 20 pre-op bays, and 14 PACU bays.
Required Experience
- Registered Nurse: 2 years of Level 1 or 2 trauma experience
- Endoscopy Technician: 1 year of relevant experience
Traveling Policies
- First-time travelers require email approval.
- Travelers must reside more than 100 miles away from the facility.
- Permanently employed staff must wait one full year to return as travelers.
Patient Types
Care will be provided for patients undergoing upper and lower endoscopy procedures, including advanced techniques such as:
- Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
- Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Colon procedures
Recovery care will be provided in both Phase I and Phase II with some patients requiring ICU level care.
Patient Ratios
- Endoscopy: 1:1
- Pre-Op: 1:2
- PACU Phase I: 1:1 or 1:2 (based on acuity)
- PACU Phase II: 1:2-3
Required Certifications
- Registered Nurse: BLS, ACLS
- Endoscopy Technician: BLS
Required Education
- Registered Nurse: Completion of an approved nursing education program; Registered Nurse (RN) licensure from the state board of nursing.
- Endoscopy Technician: High School Diploma or GED (required); completion of an accredited program (preferred).
Skills Required
Registered Nurse
- Experience in endoscopy procedures, including advanced techniques (EUS, EBUS, ERCP)
- Ability to work with anesthesia providers for sedation
Endoscopy Technician
- Comfortable performing advanced endoscopy procedures, including EUS, EBUS, ERCP, and stenting
- Responsible for processing endoscopy scopes for the department
Support on the Unit
Staffing includes 6 RNs and Endoscopy Technicians, with anesthesia services providing sedation for procedures.
Charting System/Equipment
- EPIC
- ION robot – robotic-assisted bronchoscopy
- Omnicell
- Alaris
Floating Policies
Staff may be floated to Pre-Op, PACU, or other floors as needed, but will not be floated to the Main OR as primary RNs.
Orientation
Orientation consists of 1 week of training.
Scheduling
- Weekend rotation: every 3rd weekend
- Overnight call shifts: one overnight per week and every 3rd weekend
- Potential shifts for travelers: 0630-1500, 0730-1600, 0830-1700, 0900-1800
Holiday Expectations
Expectation to work during 2 out of 4 major holidays.
