Speech-Language Pathologist

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist I/II / Advanced Speech-Language Pathologist I/II provides quality speech and/or language therapy services to a predominantly Native American population. This role focuses on the rehabilitation of patients with various developmental, cognitive, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically based speech therapy for both inpatient and outpatient services. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for:

• Assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results for patients ranging in age from birth through geriatric.
• Documenting patient information in the electronic health record.
• Determining speech therapy treatment plans through physician referral or consultation with physicians and setting realistic treatment goals based on patient evaluations and diagnosis.
• Recommending and implementing adjustments to therapy plans based on patient progress.
• Documenting results of patient assessments, treatments, follow-ups, and termination of services.
• Selecting and constructing therapies tailored to individual patient goals and needs.
• Instructing patients, families, and staff on appropriate speech-language procedures and home programs to promote therapeutic carryover in daily activities.
• Providing specialty services including swallowing evaluations, videofluoroscopy (VFSS), modified barium swallowing studies (MBS), fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), cognitive treatment, voice treatment, and pediatric speech/language therapy.
• Assisting in direction and development of the speech therapy service, ensuring quality improvement, risk management, and safety.
• Complying with federal and state speech therapy certification requirements and following established organizational policies and procedures.
• Providing training and in-service education for students and staff.
• Consulting with the Physical Rehabilitation team and other healthcare professionals.

Necessary Qualifications

• Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a school accredited by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
• Licensure:
  • Must have and maintain certification of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA.
  • Must possess a valid, current, full, and unrestricted Speech-Language Pathology license from the Arizona Department of Health or any U.S. state, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
• Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association is required during employment.
• Credentialing: Must meet requirements to be credentialed to serve on the Medical Staff.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist is required.
