Physical Therapist Assistant

Job Description

This position focuses on providing Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) treatments in a rehabilitation services setting. The role involves working as part of a team under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to implement treatment plans and facilitate patient rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide therapy treatments based on the physical therapist’s plan of care, focusing on specific goals for patients.
  • Review clinical records and case histories, attending care conferences and collaborating with healthcare professionals to assess patient needs.
  • Document patient encounters, including findings, treatment plans, and recommendations in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Direct the work of support staff and assist in administrative matters and clinic operations as needed.
  • Conduct patient education programs and develop home exercise programs tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Assist with the acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment and maintain clinic cleanliness and order.
  • Participate in off-site therapy services and community health initiatives as required.
  • Educate staff and patients about therapeutic techniques and equipment usage.

Qualifications

  • Entry-level Physical Therapist Assistant associate degree from a CAPTE accredited program.
  • Current Physical Therapist Assistant license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Acute care hospital and outpatient experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of anatomy and musculoskeletal physiology, treatment planning, and patient care procedures.
  • Proficient in using adaptive devices and equipment, with the ability to train patients in their usage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to utilize information technology and multiple software applications effectively.

Physical Requirements

The role may involve repetitive lifting and physically demanding movements, requiring good body mechanics and sound judgment. Services may be performed in various settings, including patient homes and community events, necessitating travel to remote areas under varying weather conditions.

Working Environment

This position involves working in varied environments and dealing with diverse patient populations. It is essential to maintain professionalism and uphold confidentiality while providing high-standard care.
