Physical Therapist
Job Description
A Physical Therapist plans and executes rehabilitation programs to help patients return to a higher level of physical function after an accident or surgery. The role also involves managing pain associated with degenerative conditions or terminal diseases. Physical Therapists employ various techniques, including physical activity, reflexology, massage, and manual therapy, to aid in patient recovery. Collaboration with other health professionals such as occupational therapists and speech therapists is essential to achieving optimal patient outcomes. The position involves predominantly outpatient care with a small percentage of inpatient duties.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited physical therapy program
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in a long-term care or hospital setting
- Licenses/Certifications: Current Physical Therapy state license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Understanding of age-appropriate care for diverse patient populations
Responsibilities
- Consult with patients to assess their physical conditions, review medical histories, and referrals from providers
- Diagnose movement dysfunction through patient observation and discussion
- Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs
- Coach patients on therapeutic exercises and stretches to aid in their recovery
- Perform hands-on therapy methods, such as massage, to alleviate pain and encourage healing
- Maintain comprehensive records of patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress
- Communicate progress and current status to appropriate parties including family members and health care teams
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Professional Communication
- Ensure confidentiality regarding patient and family matters
- Engage with patients and families from various sociocultural backgrounds
- Provide information to ease anxiety and convey acceptance and care
- Maintain professional relationships with health care team members and external referral agencies
- Communicate effectively with peers and patient care providers regarding clinical priorities
- Alert supervisors about any security concerns in the workplace
Teamwork
- Prioritize and accept assignments based on competencies and unit needs
- Collaborate with care providers to fulfill tasks and provide clinical assistance
- Report on patient conditions to relevant staff, including physicians and nurses
- Employ problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective workplace relationships
- Punctually adhere to scheduled work hours
Professional Development
- Participate in in-service training, continuing education, and departmental meetings
- Contribute to annual peer performance evaluations as requested
- Respond to opportunities for care improvement and enhanced customer service
Shift Information
This position requires working 8 to 9 hours per day, four days per week. Holiday coverage may be required.
Experience Requirement
Minimum of less than one year of relevant experience is preferred.
