Ultrasound Technologist

Unit Information

The unit is equipped with 4 ultrasound rooms and a team of 14 staff members. The ultrasound department operates with various shifts:

  • Day Shift: 4 sonographers (plus supervisor)
  • Evening Shift: 1 sonographer after 7:30 PM
  • Night Shift: 1 sonographer

Job Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound examinations on a diverse patient population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Technologists are expected to manage patient load effectively, adhering to department protocols and policies.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide array of ultrasound procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Thoracentesis, paracentesis, and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) for various body parts
    • Drainages for abscesses, cysts, hematomas, and gallbladders
    • Thrombin injections
    • Performing procedures in the OR, such as breast needle placements, carotid assessments, D&Cs, and prostate biopsies

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a variety of ultrasound settings, with a strong reference background
  • Knowledge of anatomy and pathology, including the ability to distinguish normal from abnormal findings
  • Proficient scanning skills and an understanding of sonographic physics and techniques
  • Clinical experience in an acute care setting with exposure to general, vascular, and OB-GYN sonography

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will be prioritized:

  • Additional certifications such as RVT, OB-GYN, and AB
  • Experience in the operating room and with ultrasound procedures
  • 1 year of experience beyond formal education

Additional Information

This position does not require on-call duties, and weekend staffing is managed by designated weekend staff. Opportunities for extra shifts may be available.
