Job Requirements

The following qualifications and certifications are preferred or required for the position:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent: Preferred
  • Three years’ technical experience: Preferred
  • Experience as Special Procedures Technologist: Preferred
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification: Preferred
  • Radiologic Tech (RT) in the state of practice: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per policy: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per policy: Required
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required
  • Fluoroscopy (FLUORO): Required
  • Prevention and Management of Violent Behavior (PVMB) or Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or TEAM-A or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI): Required

Essential Functions

The Special Procedures Technologist will be responsible for the following:

  • Operate diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast-enhanced radiographs of the heart and cardiovascular system during cardiac catheterization.
  • Position and immobilize patients on the examination table, utilizing specified protocols and equipment.
  • Assist physicians in specialized procedures and special exams, entering relevant technical factors into the computer.
  • Adjust examination tables and manipulate the x-ray tube based on physician instructions.
  • Commence automatic injection of contrast medium into patient blood vessels as needed.
  • Activate fluoroscope and motion picture camera (cinefluorography) to aid in guiding catheters through the cardiovascular system.
  • Provide patients with explanations of procedures and ensure clear discharge instructions are understood.
  • Monitor and observe vital signs and environmental factors during imaging processes, alerting physicians to any changes in patient responses.
  • Assist in interventional procedures, including the instillation of enzymes or the insertion of balloons to remove blockages in blood vessels.
  • Maintain accurate and updated documentation in compliance with program standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
