Position Overview
The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology Radiologic Technologist plays a pivotal role in supporting diagnostic and interventional procedures through expert operation of fluoroscopic imaging equipment, application of sterile techniques, and coordination of procedural workflow. This position involves close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The technologist showcases advanced technical skills in procedural imaging, radiation safety, sterile field maintenance, and hemodynamic monitoring while strictly adhering to departmental protocols and regulatory standards. Professional judgment is exercised in service delivery, maintaining a demeanor consistent with medical ethics. The technologist is responsible for recognizing patient conditions essential for successful procedure completion and is accountable to the Unit Manager and Surgical Services Director.
Essential Job Functions
- Imaging Role:
- Operate fluoroscopic and radiographic imaging systems during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Perform image post-processing and ensure images are sent to PACS.
- Maintain optimal image quality, positioning, and equipment settings based on procedural needs.
- Verify imaging readiness, room setup, and equipment functionality prior to each case.
- Adhere to ALARA principles and all radiation safety policies.
- Enter charges into Epic when necessary.
- Scrub Role:
- Function as the scrub technologist using sterile techniques to assist physicians during procedures.
- Prepare and organize sterile instruments and procedural trays.
- Anticipate physician needs and respond during critical moments.
- Demonstrate familiarity with vascular anatomy, device sizing, catheter selection, and procedural flow.
- Communicate effectively with the monitoring team to document procedure activities.
- Monitor Role:
- Record hemodynamic data, pressures, and procedural events as the primary monitor technologist.
- Ensure allergy considerations are documented during the timeout process.
- Operate and troubleshoot physiological monitoring systems.
- Accurately document all supplies, implants, contrast usage, and procedural details.
- Communicate real-time findings to the procedural team.
- Peri-Procedure:
- Assist with patient preparation and positioning, and connect monitoring equipment.
- Collaborate with nurses to verify allergies, NPO status, and renal function.
- Perform patient identification and timeout processes as per policy.
- Support during sedation, as directed by nursing and medical staff.
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes during procedures.
- Department Support:
- Manage supplies, ensure appropriate inventory levels, and restock procedure rooms.
- Assist with room turnover, including post-procedure cleanup and preparation for the next case.
- Conduct basic daily/weekly equipment checks to ensure functionality.
- Report malfunctioning equipment and assist with service calls.
- Ensure proper cleaning and storage of devices.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Required: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Preferred: BS in Radiologic Science/Medical Imaging.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Required: Current Oregon State licensure issued by OBMI, ARRT certification, RT(R); current BLS, ACLS certification (or within 6 months of hire); Certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred (e.g., RCIS, NIH Stroke Scale).
- Experience:
- Required: At least one year of experience in Interventional Radiology and/or
- Required: At least one year of experience in Interventional Radiology and/or
