Job Description:

Under the supervision of the ultrasound supervisor, assists the radiologist and other physicians in achieving scans and films in order to achieve a diagnosis concerning patients receiving an ultrasound exam or sonogram. Able to provide patient care activities to include adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Responsible for the proper utilization of Radiology Information System as described in the RIS Policy and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Participate and implement age-specific care and interaction.
• Attend departmental orientation and annual in-service education for age-specific training and implement it in the work area.
• Be aware of hospital performance projects and interact appropriately for improvement.
• Complete all assigned work, tasks, and duties before clocking out and leaving.
• Anticipate patient needs and establish rapport with the patient and family.
• Explain procedure to patients and families, gaining their trust.
• Instruct patients on positioning and breathing techniques to optimize exams.
• Provide basic patient care and comfort.
• Perform ultrasound exams utilizing proper established procedures at all times.
• Perform diagnostic procedures by producing, assessing, evaluating, and interpreting ultrasound images and related data that are used to render a medical diagnosis.

Requirements:

• Meets requirements for registry by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Six months’ experience preferred in the performance of ultrasound and must be registry-eligible.
