CT Technologist

Job Description

Under the direction of the Radiologist and the CT Supervisor, the CT Technologist performs CT procedures in accordance with department protocols at a technical level. This position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to conduct a variety of technical procedures, including interventional cases, CT Angiography, and advanced 3D reconstruction. The role requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply ionizing radiation, adhering to the ALARA principle for CT diagnosis. The technologist is responsible for administering IV, oral, and rectal contrast, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring a clean and organized work area. Minimal holiday and backup call coverage is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports and promotes the mission and values of the organization.
• Acquires scans according to radiologist and department protocol.
• Informs patients of the exam process and provides instructions to assure cooperation.
• Assists the radiologist during interventional procedures.
• Coordinates daily workload by scheduling inpatients and prioritizing emergency department patients while considering the outpatient schedule.
• Reviews IV Contrast Questionnaire with patients receiving IV contrast.
• Completes documentation in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Reviews exams in PACS for completeness prior to submission to the radiologist.
• Ensures the safety of all patients.
• Flexibly assists with the 24/7 coverage of the department.
• Punctually arrives for all assigned shifts, including holidays and weekends.
• Completely ready to work until the end of the shift.
• Completes mandatory learning, competencies, and continuing education as required.
• Follows dress code policy.
• Maintains HIPAA compliance.
• Responsible for cleaning, stocking supplies, and laundry to maintain a professional workspace.
• Performs other duties as consistent with this role.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of CT Scan software, with GE and Siemens preferred.
• Experience with PACS software; McKesson Change Healthcare preferred.
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR); Epic preferred.
• Skills in patient preparation, positioning, and scan acquisition according to protocol.
• Ability to identify anatomy, pathology, and contrast enhancement on cross-sectional imaging.
• Experience obtaining symptom and relevant patient history to ensure medical necessity.
• Routinely attempts to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
• Understanding of daily QA and warm-up procedures for CT Scan equipment.
• Able to troubleshoot issues with CT Scan equipment and contact service as needed.
• Practices the ALARA principle at all times.

Education and Experience

• Current ARRT certification required.
• ARRT CT Registry eligibility preferred.
• NH Imaging License required.
• BLS Certification required.
• CT Scan experience required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be considered.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

The position requires the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks typically associated with this role, including a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 50 pounds may be required. Some stress may arise due to the high level of responsibility for quality care.

Shift Information

Shifts are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday from 7 PM to 7 AM overnight, and every other weekend from 7 AM to 7 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
