Respiratory Therapist NICU

About the Facility

This facility is a Level II Trauma Center with 492 beds, featuring a Level III NICU and serving as a Primary Stroke Center.

General Information

  • Will accept first-time travelers with at least 2 years of experience and EMR experience in Cerner or EPIC.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience required in a Level III NICU.

Patient Types

  • All patient types throughout the hospital.
  • For Respiratory Therapist NICU positions specifically, candidates will work in the NICU.

Patient Ratios

Patient ratios depend on staffing levels.

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required for NICU roles.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) certifications are preferred.
  • Preference for Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT), but Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT) with at least 2 years of experience will be considered.

Skills Required

  • Experience providing general and critical care for adult patients.
  • Experience in a Level III NICU, including ground transports and Nitric Oxide administration.
  • Ability to work independently in a Level III NICU environment.

Technology/Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Cerner
  • Medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitoring systems: Spacelabs
  • Ventilators: PB 840, PB 980, Drager VN500, LTV, Airvo
  • Oscillator: 3100A

Floating

Floating will occur to any similar unit or patient location. NICU therapists may also work with adult patients.

Orientation

Travelers new to the facility or returning after a year will undergo 24 hours of classroom instruction followed by 24 hours of unit-based training. Rehires will have orientation based on their last date of employment.

Scheduling

  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend.
  • Voluntary call is available.
  • Holiday expectations include one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.
  • Approval for time off includes up to 7 days, except during specific blackout dates, which include various holidays throughout the year.
  • Shift times: 7a-7p, 7p-7a.
