Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in assisting during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. This position also involves participating in unit activities to assure high-quality patient care and functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions

  • Possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, and surgical procedures to assist with invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, adhering to AORN standards.
  • Maintains and verifies that all surgical items are properly packaged, processed, and sterile before use, ensuring patient safety throughout the operative procedure.
  • Monitors the sterile field for contamination risks and takes corrective actions when necessary, under supervision.
  • Works towards competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Maintains flexibility and contributes to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the designated scope of practice.
  • Communicates effectively with the perioperative team and participates actively in the Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings.
  • Assists with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation of operating rooms.
  • Stays current with new technologies and procedures, particularly relating to instrumentation and equipment.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Exemplifies the principles of a Just Culture and performs other duties as assigned, ensuring HIPAA compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association is required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills to complete job-specific competencies and access online resources within 90 days.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
