Certified Medical Assistant

Shift Information

40 hours scheduled across Sunday to Saturday, 8 AM – 8 PM. Schedule varies.

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • At least 1 year of urgent care experience within the last 2 years.

Certifications Required

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant provides care to patients of all ages in an ambulatory care environment. This role is essential in maintaining efficient operations and patient flow to optimize provider time and ensure access to care. Responsibilities include performing administrative duties, data management, and basic clinical tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately collect and document patient information in medical charts.
  • Maintain current patient medication and immunization records.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention.
  • Transport patients within the facility as needed.
  • Efficiently manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow.
  • Report and document changes observed in patient conditions or unusual incidents.
  • Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, treatments, and assist with minor office surgeries.
  • Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following established protocols.
  • Assist providers as directed within the licensed Scope of Practice.
  • Administer immunizations and injections as ordered by providers.
  • Participate in the training and oversight of Clinical Assistant I and Clinical Assistant II positions.
  • Cross-cover for peers to ensure efficient patient flow through the department.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and unit goal setting discussions.
  • Adhere to safety and risk management procedures, reporting any incidents or unsafe conditions.

Education and Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in clinic procedures, medical terminology, and use of EMR systems preferred.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment (e.g., blood pressure cuff, EKG machine).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to interact effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Capable of making independent decisions based on experience and sound judgment.

Physical Demands

This position requires regular communication and may involve frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift and or push/pull up to 25 lbs. Employees may be expected to assist in lifting patients as required.

Work Environment

The work setting includes office and healthcare environments. Exposure to various controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold, may occur. Job responsibilities may involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
