Anesthesia Technologist

Schedule

Days: Monday – Friday, 6 AM – 2:30 PM (On Call/Callback, holidays, weekends as per unit needs)

Specific Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Assistance (20%): Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia by preparing anesthesia equipment, placing monitors, ensuring cleanliness and availability of equipment and supplies, and setting up medications. Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists and other team members to meet their needs, while assisting with difficult intubations and central line placement.
  • Equipment Operation (20%): Operate the cell-saver machine, manage lab reports, and participate in advanced surgical cases including cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, and trauma surgeries. Provide on-call coverage and work directly with designated specialty faculty.
  • Equipment Maintenance (20%): Ensure anesthesia equipment is functioning properly and that preventive maintenance is completed. Set up sophisticated equipment, perform troubleshooting, and serve as a resource for using and maintaining specialized equipment.
  • Training Support (15%): Assist in developing and implementing in-service training programs while aiding in staff training related to the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
  • Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting (15%): Conduct anesthesia equipment setups, test infusion pumps and monitors, calibrate anesthesia machines, and connect fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
  • Room Setup (5%): Prepare operating rooms between cases, set up carts throughout the day, and ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment for out-of-OR procedures.
  • Shift Supervisor Backup (5%): Provide backup to the shift supervisor during their absence due to vacation or illness, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist

Preferred Qualifications

  • A four-year college degree with related technical training, or a two-year college degree with technical training and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or another recognized certifying body is preferred.
