Anesthesia Technologist

Hours

  • 1:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Holidays, weekends, on-call, and callback as needed
  • 1 year contract only

Specific Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Assistance (20%)
    • Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia by preparing anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival.
    • Place anesthesia monitors and ensure the cleanliness of anesthesia equipment.
    • Ensure the availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies.
    • Set up medications and supplies as applicable.
    • Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet their needs throughout the day.
    • Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and placement of central line catheters.
  • Equipment Operation (20%)
    • Operate the cell-saver machine and keep track of lab reports, participating in advanced surgical cases including cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, and trauma cases.
    • Work directly with the service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty.
    • Provide on-call coverage as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance (20%)
    • Provide primary support to ensure anesthesia equipment is in good working order and preventive maintenance is completed.
    • Set up and operate sophisticated equipment, performing advanced troubleshooting.
    • Act as the key resource for using and maintaining specialized equipment.
  • Training and Development (15%)
    • Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in developing and implementing in-service training programs.
    • Support the training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
  • Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting (15%)
    • Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors.
    • Calibrate anesthesia machines and attach fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
  • Room Setup (5%)
    • Set up rooms between cases and prepare carts throughout the day, providing full service setup at the end of the day.
    • Collaborate with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment.
    • Support ectopic procedures for anesthesia care by ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures.
  • Supervisory Support (5%)
    • Provide backup to the shift supervisor in their absence due to vacation or illness.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A four-year college education including related technical training; or a two-year college education with technical training closely related to this position accompanied by two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or another nationally recognized professional certifying body is preferred.
